A word from the Editor

Welcome to our Spring Newsletter, although you can be forgiven for wondering if we will ever get any prolonged sunshine, we live in hope that it will shine down on us very soon!

I am very pleased to say that both Hungerford and Wallingford Arcades have had a vey busy month, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for coming back to us time and time again.

I would also like to thank all our customers who have left wonderful reviews for both Hungerford and Wallingford Arcades.  We are truly grateful.

We have again had new stallholders join us with a wonderful selection of stock.  Some are amazing and will surprise you so look out for them below.

One of the highlights in the Hungerford calendar is The Town and Manor annual Hocktide celebrations on the second Tuesday after Easter.  We believe it is the only town in the country to still carry out this ancient tradition which involves the whole town. You can read all about it by clicking on the Blog link below.

Quite by coincidence there are two classic car events being held on Sunday the 12th May 2024.  One is the Classic Car Show outside Hungerford Arcade and the other is the Wallingford Car Rally.  I will tell you more later on in this Newsletter, but they are very exciting and a great family day out.

Stallholder George Dolling (Unit 66) is our resident Wedgwood expert, especially early Wedgwood.  He has highlighted 2 pieces from his current collection.

WEDGWOOD CAPRIWARE TEAPOT

This teapot was produced by Wedgwood between 1830 and 1891. It is made from their well known high quality black basalt stoneware (in production since 1768), intended to imitate natural basalt. Its versatility meant that it could be used for all sorts of different designs, from library busts to delicate jewellery……. read more here

HUNGERFORD ARCADE – TUTTI DAY 2024

Hungerford Arcade loves being part of local events and continuing age old traditions.  One of our favourites is the annual Hocktide celebrations on the second Tuesday after Easter.

The town is decorated in colours of blue, white and yellow and everyone joins in the occasion.

We are very grateful to Jacquie Seaby, unit 109 and one of our managers and a florist in a past life, for the wonderful flower arrangements with which we decorated our front door…..Read more here.

Hungeford Arcade Classic Car Show

Sunday, 12th May 2024

For many years now, the West Berkshire Classic Vehicle Club have been coming to Hungerford Arcade with their beautiful vintage vehicles.  They park immediately outside the building and start arriving around 10.00 am.  To come along and give them your support.  They love to chat with you about their vehicles and believe me, it is very interesting.  They are a great bunch of people.
